One Piece, Now that they are both “gods,” Luffy and his brother Sabo represent the struggle to free the One Piece universe from the control of the World Government.
As Sabo, the Straw Hat captain’s brother, becomes more and more revered across the globe for his achievements as a Commander of the Revolutionary Army, the family of Luffy, the main character of One Piece, becomes more and more hazardous. Given that Sabo is now referred to be the “Flame Emperor” and that it has been revealed that Luffy has the abilities of the ancient god of freedom, Nika, the despotic World Government now has to battle against two “gods.”
Sabo is Luffy’s blood brother. The three, along with Ace, grew up in the Goa Kingdom with aspirations of being roving pirates. Sabo was allegedly slain, nevertheless, while attempting to escape his wealthy and harsh family. In reality, Monkey D. Dragon, Luffy’s biological father and the commander of the Revolutionary Army, rescued him and raised him to be his deputy. Later, to free their buddy Kuma who had been captured by the Celestial Dragons, Sabo and the other Revolutionary Army leaders sneaked into Mary Geoise at the Levely, the meeting of the world’s rulers (the highest-ranking World Nobles). Two Admirals, Ryokugyu and Fujitora, engaged them, and the result of that conflict was just recently made public.
One Piece chapter #1054 indicated that the rescue operation was successful and the commanders were able to deal a significant blow to the Celestial Dragons after earlier hinting that Sabo had been dead. Due to Sabo eating the Mera Mera no Mi, the fire-based Devil Fruit originally carried by his slain brother Ace, he is now referred to be “the hero of the whole world” and “Flame Emperor Sabo.” In addition, Sabo is charged with the murder of King Cobra of Arabasta, a lineal descendant of one of the original 20 nobles who established the World Government. Even though it’s doubtful, Sabo inspired rebels all throughout the globe to topple their monarchies, and today they revere him as a god.
This development is even more important since it occurs soon after it was discovered that Luffy had the abilities of the “Sun God Nika,” a mystery fabled character from the past who was revered as a liberator by slaves. There is no way the two brothers’ similarities are just coincidences. Strong repeating symbolism may be seen throughout One Piece, particularly in relation to the Sun and ideas associated to it, such as “dawn” and “fire.” These are almost always associated with freedom and release from tyranny and have only positive meanings. Both Sabo and Luffy are “liberators” in their own right, having aided numerous individuals throughout the globe. They are both referred to be “gods,” and this puts them directly in the path of the merciless Celestial Dragons, who refer to themselves as “the gods of this planet.”
Together with Sabo, this family is now the most serious threat to the World Government since Luffy and Dragon both possess the enigmatic “Will of D.”, which is known as the “natural adversary of the Celestial Dragons.” Fans of One Piece may be sure that Luffy’s family will be in the epicenter of the massive conflict that is rapidly approaching the One Piece universe.
